The Green Team

Since I joined Cedar Hill Prep, I have been part of a club known as the Green Team. We work on making the school more green, sufficient, and sustainable. Last year, we made a rain garden near the sidewalk where people roll their roller bags every morning. This caused erosion. To fix this, the Green Team constructed a rain garden to prevent erosion and filter the water that goes through it. We also made a riparian buffer zone near the stream behind Cedar Hill Prep to help increase water quality.

Gardening

Since a young age, every year my dad and I garden in our backyard and we plant a variety of vegetables and herbs including tomatoes, potatoes, chilies, rosemary, basil, mint, and more. This has given us fresh foods straight from the backyard. This also made us not waste gas going to the grocery store which would have polluted the air.

Union Beach Cleanup

As a house officer for the past two years, I have participated in the Union Beach Cleanup. Every month, we try to go to Union Beach on a Saturday and pick up the trash that was washed up on the beach that could have killed an animal. Each time, we pick up many pounds of trash, helping the wildlife inside the water and near the water.
